Hi All,

Working on my backlog of video cards requiring repair 😀

This one is an Albatron GeForce 4 Ti4200 (128MB 8X AGP model). I get artifacting in 2D/3D, but aside from that the card is stable. I replaced two broken off surface mount caps earlier, but that didn't do the trick. I'm assuming it's bad memory. I checked all of the legs and they seem okay.

The original memory is 16MB 275MHz Samsung K4D28163HD-TC36 (datasheet attached). I can't seem to find it stocked anywhere. Most of the new stock DDR I can find these days is rated for no more than 200MHz. Does anyone know of any good alternative chips I could use for this card with either same or better specs?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Have you checked for lose connections on the memchips?
You can sometimes find cracked joints if you squeeze the chips and the picture changes.

When it comes to replacement chips, its probably easier and cheaper to find a donor card.

A lot of issues like this are from bad capacitors.

Try under clocking the card and see if it gets better.

+1

I have an mx200 card which gives crazy artifacting in GL mode but is happy as a clam when underclocked maybe 10% or so.
