Hello all,

This is maybe my 1st post in Vogons, and I write about a problem 😁

I'm also one of the guys trying to get period correct collections of AGP cards (all the way up to Radeon HD 3850), and somewhere along the way, I had most problem to find Radeon 8500/9000/9100, as they were not very much used in the county in which I'm living (Serbia).

I managed to find one Radeon 8500 card which I can hear posting, but output is only completely white screen, without any anomalies or corruptions, just simply put - white screen 100%.

I tried both VGA output, DVI to VGA (passive) and DVI to VGA (active), and all 3 show the same - white screen.

Let me mention I checked card for physical damage, and in this relatively short period, I could not find any missing components, only some minor (I would say not important) scratches. Card seems as it was working for quite a while (ball bearing on the fan was sounding like a lawnmower, before I added some machine oil).

Test platform is nforce3 250 GB/ultra board (DFI LanParty nf3), if it can lead to this anomaly, due to some incompatibility?

Did you ever see such a problem, I tried googling it and no relevant results come out... 😒

EDIT: not my 1st post, I was wrong 😁

Might it be that the graphic card is for Apple Mac ? It's better to attach photos of the card and maybe someone will spot something.

actually most of the stickers on the card were scratched out, i there another way to recognize a MAC edition card?

AGP connector seems to me is standard and the PC does POST with card in the slot.

Have you tried to connect a monitor to another PC or video card ? Maybe instead of the graphics card the monitor is broken...

actually it's my test setup, and my daily monitor, I already tested 40-50 cards on same monitor 😉

Have I understood right that the white screen appears just after power-on (even during BIOS post-screen or in DOS)? I mean is it not a problem of ATI windows drivers?
I remember there was a problem with the latest legacy ATI driver in windows 7 (or maybe also in XP).
Also I would try to add into the system a PCI video card as a primary graphics adapter and look up the radeon among PCI devices in windows manager or in AIDA or similar utilities.

So as asked, I attach the hi-res photos of the Radeon...

EDIT: yes, the white screen appears on BIOS post, so from 1st screen, I didn't try booting into windows as on this PC I don't have a system installed.

There're some missing components - mostly electrolytic capacitors and also ceramic ones.
I got this picture as a reference , P/N is the same : 109-85700-00
Maybe you'll spot more. Good luck!
It's difficult to say without a schematic diagram or measurement which are really important and cause faulty behavior of the card.
Also maybe the card became a donor of capacitors years ago when someone understood or supposed the GPU was faulty. But for me the pads look like the smd capacitors were just scraped, although pads of dip capacitors look soldered .

This guy needs resistance values for these resistors at given locations, (they are black film) with white ceramic under it.) Ditto to cream coloured SMD ceramic capacitor values.

Help the guy please.

Cheers,

I'm no expert but I tried my best.
So for identification, i assumed that black smd components are resistors, tan ones are capacitors.

I compared to my own 8500 "standard" (Not LE, Not DV, Not AIW). Can be seen here : https://retro.user-unfriendly.net/Parts/Graph … 20AGP/pictures/

Mine is a bit different because it has a tv out.

I added numbers to the identified missing components.

8500 are rare in France too. It took me a few years to find one.
I hope I will help.
