I am setting up a Windows NT V3.51 test system and trying to decide which GPU to use. At the moment I have a Radeon 9200 which has drivers for NT 4.00 through to Server 2003 x32, but I can't find an NT 3.51 driver for it so am limited to 800 x 600 x 16 colours which as you can see limits things.

file.php?id=156429

What is the newest GPU that has drivers for NT 3.51 through to Server 2003? In an ideal world I would also like Windows 7 x32 support, but suspect this is wishful thinking.

While is may not be the newest GPU, Matrox G400 has drivers for all of those OSs still available direct from their site. For Windows 7, you may need to use the Vista driver, but it should work OK.

Thank you, I tried https://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/othermga/previ … us/1570_121.zip with my G400 installed as the only GPU. This resulted in a BSOD 🙁

Which I feel is not ideal. I unplugged the G400, but still got the BSOB so deleted %SystemRoot%\System32\MGA.sys, then 3.51 booted 😀

Which driver did you use that worked rather than triggering a BSOD please?, a link to it would be good.

Thus far the best I have found is a S3 Trio64V2/DX (86C775) 😀, but it won't do 1024 x 768 x 32 even though it's listed as a valid mode 🙁

This one: https://www.matrox.com/en/video/apps/drivers/ … es/nt35_251.php (that page has a click-through to get to the actual driver).

Other G400 drivers for old OSs here: https://www.matrox.com/en/video/apps/drivers/ … perating_system

I don't have NT 3.5 installed at the moment, but I can fire it up over the weekend if it would help you.

Thank you, that version is way better. I have set 1600 x 1200 x 32 as 1920 x 1200 only offers 24-bit colour. It's interesting that the G400 enables AGP when it's disabled in the 865PE chipset.

Do you know if dbghelp.dll and/or psapi.dll are available for NT3.51 please? I found them for NT4, but those won't load on 3.51.

Which CPU would your NT 3.51 system have? Looking in HKLM\Hardware\Description\System\CentralProcessor\0 Identifier is x86 Family 7 Model 2 Stepping 9 when it should be Family 15 so I would be interested to see what you get.

After a lot of fun and games I managed to install NT 3.51 on my Gigabyte 965P-DS3 which has 4GB of RAM. To get it to install I needed to drop it down to 2GB, but once I installed SP5 it's now happy with 4GB. So far it's reported 80586-A0 as the Identifier for all of Pentium 4 640 (Prescott 2M) + Pentium D 940 (Presler) + Celeron Dual E1400 (Allendale-512) + Core 2 Quad Q9550 (Yorkfield), so I guess anything post Northwood.

I wonder if there are any PCIe GPUs with NT 3.51 drivers, I suspect not.

My CPU is a P233MMX, which is Family 5, Model 4, Stepping 3

Thank you, I expect that is old enough for NT V3.51 to report it correctly

I felt I would like to have a PCIe GPU, but thus far can't find a working driver for NT 4.00 and I don't think an NT3.51 driver exists, does anyone know of one please?

For NT 4.00 I found DriverVer=05/20/2004, 4.00.03.4504, it installs, but when I reboot it get's half way through starting, then spontaneously reboots 🙁

AFAIK the GPU is a X300 SE and the P/N is 102A6280100. It works great on 2003 which confirms it has 128MB
