Hi,
I've got a way overkill GPU on a Soltek SL-54U5 paired with a K6-2/500.
As expected, the AGP speed is at 1x. How can I get it to 2x?
Bios version is newest, and patched (modbin) to allow agp 2x selection.
Via 4in1 drivers are v4.35.
Nvidia drivers are 45.23 (modded to allow use on FX5500).
Rivatuner 2.24c does not allow other selection than AGP 1x.
I tried the power user-tab, and setting AGPrate to 2x, but I cannot get it to stick. Apparently, I don't know how to use it.

Any tips? 😀

Is there an option in the CMOS settings for the AGP speed? My Epox MVP3 has this option, but the Soyo 5EMA I had didn't. I had good luck using the 2x setting on both of my MVP3 motherboards (though the performance improvement was negligible) but others have found that it causes more problems than it's worth.

On some MVP3 boards you can use a BIOS modding program to unhide a hidden option for AGP 2x Y/N, but it really isn't worth the bother unless it's just something you want to do.

You should have a look at this thread: [SOLVED] DFI K6XV3+/66 (ATX SS7 board) unstable with GeForce cards - BIOS bug

The Via 4 in 1 4.17 driver seems to work the best with the MVP3 out of what I've tried.

Do you have a Turbo Mode selection when installing the 4-in-1 drivers?

i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Orion 700 | TB 1000 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

The bios has been patched to show the AGP 2x enabled/disabled, and it is at enabled. I could trying 4in1 drivers 4.17.
Turbo mode is not selected (but available) at 4in1 installation.
I'm having issues trying to run Screamer 4x4, it does not start. I've applied the MS security updates and a separate update-iso available on vogonsdrivers.
Due to this, DirectX7 (required for Screamer 4x4) is not installed and it crashes either with OpenGL or D3D startup selection.

So what happens when selecting Turbo Mode ?

I like version 405b agp driver and via 4.17 agp, also via 4.23 agp seems to work well for my via mvp3.

What tool you use to patch via mvp3 bios for agp2x/1x option?

AGP speed has almost no effect on performance on such weak systems, within 1-3%

FX cards are slow on socket7 systems, better find a full Geforce2 or Geforce3 version (use early drivers 5.xx - 12.90 for better performance). As a compromise solution you can use Geforce 4 MX440 128bit.

If you need better compatibility with older games it is better to use Nvidia TNT2 (128bit, driver version 2.xx).

This will be put on hold for a while, I've got some other stuff that's need to be done.
After that I might try:
- Different Via 4in1
- Selecting Turbo mode
- I also have a TNT2 I could try.

Thanks all for the input! 😀

This is actually a feature, not a bug. 😀
Having the AGP running at 1X on SS7 boards is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. At 2X there will be no performance improvement, however you will end up with an unstable system in 99% of cases.

Modbin. Atheatos made a helpful video. I don't recommend trying it unless you have an external programmer. The first time I tried it, it worked perfectly. The second time, not so lucky, and I had to do a hot swap flash, which is why (one reason anyway) I now have a programmer.
