I just made 3 videos on setting up native Blood to play online. Let me know what you think.

NATIVE ONLINE BLOOD - Windows XP ONLY!

PART 1: GET CONNECTED http://screencast.com/t/nJNjHRQqU21

1.1 http://www.hamachi.cc/

1.2 Install IPX. FrameType set.

1.3 Ensure Hamachi is only Network Adapter with IPX ticked & top priority.

1.4 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158214

1.5 http://buildxp.deathmask.net/ for cli2nop (and noflb).
UPDATE: use -p (lowercase p) not -2!!!

1.6 Reboot.

PART 2: TEST http://screencast.com/t/3HkVF1b0ic

2.1 Confirm versions, & settings with others. Test with one other.

2.2 Do not ALT-TAB otherwise everyone get "out-of-syc".

PART 3: SOUND (OPTIONAL) http://screencast.com/t/7Rix5z6n

3.1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDMSound

I do apologise. In the part 1 video I used cli2nop -2 but that doesn't work. Use cli2nop -p

(lowercase p)

That works.

NB: The only other problem is, version 1.11 doesn't work under XP SP2, only version 1.0. XP SP1a could run all Blood versions, and was actually the best XP version to run Blood, but I don't think anyone would go back to XP SP1a.

Blood 1.00, 1.11, 1.20, etc. runs best under Windows XP vanilla or SP1a. It doesn't run too well under SP2 or SP3 but it can still run. I doubt anyone will still be on SP1a. If you are on SP2 or SP3 then just give it a try. Try a vanilla installation of Blood, then copy the folder, and then install an update patch for Blood and try again on this new version. Report back on your findings.

Win2k also has extremely lagged controls with Blood also
this is no way to play a classic into the future. We need to get everyone's bad ntvdm habits dropped somehow because it's ruining the vision of dos (its ansi colors aren't even correct)

When running under Windows 2K/XP it also depends on what services/background programs are running too.

If you have a really old machine (eg. P3) then why don't you stick with Windows 98SE since Windows 98SE is closest to "true" MS-DOS.

If you have a reasonable P4 (but not fast) then you can try native Blood under XP.

If you have a super fast PC then use DOSBox.

Currently am looking into building a bootable-live Windows XP SP1a CD.. with sound & network drivers.... to help run Blood smoothest under XP.......... will update you guys soon!

You could have a linux live CD that's just DOSEmu, which is also a really-fast-and-still-better-than-ntvdm solution for older machines. Could use an easy configuration front end though, since people that tend to want to play Blood you find on the internet, lets say, want a more 'push button' approach...

Hello! a link on logmeinwiki took me here, while i was searching for a solution to get Doom lan working throught hamachi, on win vista. Watched your video (http://screencast.com/t/nJNjHRQqU21), about the game Blood where you explain how to get the ipx protocol in hamachi. I could install the protocol, but when i tried the step when you go in hamachi properties, then you edit something in the Properties of the IPX connection, well, the properties button of the ipx is grey and not clickable. I would like to ask if you had any idea what to do now, or know some alternative solution to make doom1 playable, possibly over hamachi on vista.
I see the posts here are all a bit old now, i hope you sometimes read this forum and can somehow answer me. 😁
Best regards
