First off...I have read the Problem Children thread, as well as a few others and havent found this problem.

I have System Shock up and running, I have watched the beginning movie, entered the game, changed the resolution to 640x480, ect. Once I changed resolution to 640x480 the cursor moved slow as expected. So I started the game up again using mouse2kv 640 480 8 8 cdshock.exe

I was then greeted with the followoing:
16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem: "Command Prompt- mouse2kv 640 480 8 8 cdshock.exe
The system cannot open COM2 port Requested by the application. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application"

I clicked Ignore and the game started up again. On the main menu screen however the mouse is not there. So I used arrowkeys to select the Continue option, however instead of loading the game it crashes and says:

"Our system has been shocked!! But rememeber to Salt The Fries

I assume you set up the environment variables for the dos box. If the game is already running you are probably already past this point.

I've found when playing on my older system that disabling the L2 cache in bios made SS1 much more stable.

On my new system SS1 doesn't always 'come up' properly, meaning with the mouse sensitivity correct. I have to restart it once or maybe twice.

SS works in Dosbox now....might be slow depending on your hardware.

The problem is caused by the COM ports being disabled from BIOS. It will go away if you enable them. At least it did for me.

Fop, having disabled the COM ports will not cause the mouse to not work.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Remember that SS works also with Virtual PC. In my computer, with Dosbox, SS1 is TOO SLOW to play.
Listen to me, use Virtual PC!!
