I'm trying to play Duke Nukem 3D on my Windows 98 SE machine and there's a problem: the game doesn't seem to detect the mouse. I thought it might be because it's a USB mouse so I got a USB-to-PS2 adapter in hope of solving the issue.

While the mouse works fine in other games and generally in Windows, both when using the adapter and without it, with this game, it's like it doesn't exist.

The mouse sensitivity setting in the options menu is grayed out and when I press "U" which is the mouse look toggle, a message shows up at the top of the screen with the information that mouse look is now on but it doesn't work.

I tried looking for some kind of setting in the setup app that came with the game but so far, I've been unsuccessful and my googling the problem hasn't brought up any useful information as of yet.

Does anybody know why it doesn't work and how to solve the problem?

Have you tried "MS-DOS mode"? If so, are you using CuteMouse, or some other mouse driver? There was some discussion in another thread recently that older versions of CuteMouse may be more compatible.

I assume when you say "other games" that you mean "other DOS games run under Windows".

^ it's true, in older 386/486 hardware I find that ctmouse 1.9 works better , on p1 and above it doesn't matter.
just checked on my p1 build, mouse works fine under 98SE using atomic v1.5 and a ps2 mouse

don't forget about BMOUSE too, it adds better mouse support and actually turns build-engine games more enjoyable with mouselook: http://swisscm.duke4.net/mine.html
Because of it I am finally playing Blood and enjoying it 😁

There are Windows (and maybe DOS?) ports of the game engine, such as eDuke, which Jorpho mentions. Get it from

http://www.eduke32.com/

it's really good. I haven't tried any of the others engine ports, so I can't say which is the best, sorry, but eDuke is great, and has tons of settings, all from the in-game menus.

Weird seeing a site looking like its straight out of Geocities in the late 90's with 'April 2010' on its home page.

I miss seeing websites that look like that.

Geocities-like layout still used especialy by japanese, like this one: http://www.ararza.com/us/frame010.htm (WARNING: NSW)

What was the other personal web hosting site that looked very similar to Geocities? It's been so long I can't remember now. I remember Tripod but I think there was a third one that was really popular at the same time as those two.

Edit: oooh, nevermind. I remembered it. It was Angelfire. There were a lot of vintage computer and video game sites around back in the late 90's and early 2000's using those three services but most of them are gone now. I miss the Internet 1.0 look of those sites.
