I am using a Dell Dimension 4100. Windows 98SE. I am trying to get sound to work in DOS but am having trouble. I checked Device Manager and saw the following:

Creative Miscellaneous Devices
-Creative Gameport Joystick
-Creative Multimedia Interface
-Creative SB16 Emulation

Sound, video and game controllers
-Creative SB Live! Value

Using a Boot Disk I have been able to get EMM and the CD-ROM working but sound is proving difficult.

Ok going to need a little more information.
Can you tell us the model number, for Creative cards these are always CTxxxx or SBxxxx
For the moment I'll assume the drivers aren't lying and you do indeed have a SB Live value

Do you get sound from dos games if you run them in Windows? If not we need to fix this 1st
What drivers are you loading and in which order?
What error do you get when loading the drivers?

finally what are the resources set to in the Creative SB16 Emulation? This will be the settings games will ask for, (Port, IRQ, DMA)

SB16 Emulation Properties:
SB PORT: 220
MPU 401 PORT: 330
ADLIB PORT: 388
IRQ: 7
8 Bit DMA: 1
16 bit DMA: 5

(Advanced Settings: Allow LPT Interrupt Sharing is CHECKED)

I pulled the Soundcard out and it has a model number of CT4780.
I am using the SBlive.zip from http://easymamecab.mameworld.info/html/snddosdr.htm

EDIT: I got everything working! Went into the Advanced Program Settings and put in the following:

AUTOEXEC.BAT

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330
SET CTSYN=C:\DOSDRV
C:\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM
C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE
