I've found that both of the breakout cables I'd bought on ebay are only wired for MIDI, and none of the joystick pins are connected.

Is there a reliable way to buy these cables, or will I have to make my own?

This is the latest one I bought. The other is physically identical and I bought it 2 years ago, but I've only used it for MIDI up to this point.

There are others on ebay with a different appearance but have a similar description. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274349199400

My first reflex would be to look for one with moulded plastic connectors, like this one https://www.amazon.ca/Universal-Connector-Joy … s/dp/B071PC2RGY . That is what the old ones back in the day looked like when they were still being mass produced . New crappy ones are likely hand-made from commodity parts like screwed together shells . So they moulded ones are more likely to be new old stock from the good old days and thus fully functional .

Not guarantees, just my 2 cents .

I'm reluctant to buy another cable with the same description in the hope that it works. I've asked the seller on ebay if it's fully wired though and I'll see what they say.

It might just be best for me to fix the one I have, find a length of cable with enough wires in it and solder it in.

I bought one that looks just like that from a music instrument shop.

Can confirm that it works with my SC-155 and my CH Flightstick without any issues.

I bought one that looks like that and it was incorrectly wired... it's a crapshoot.

Interesting, I guess I got lucky.

For reference, I bought mine from a physical shop (not online) and it was a leftover part from days past.

Looking again I was wrong, on mine there's just one shell with two connectors and the MIDI wires come out the side. So avoid those.
