Hi.
Can half-life1 engine be set to work on 256 color mode on win98se? Like quake2 does.
How can I play hl at 640*480 256color mode?

No. Half-Life's software renderer is exclusively 16-bit color. It works with RGB lightmaps, multiple different palettes on textures and sprites, and loads of blending. All aren't trivial to implement in 8-bit color (in 1998, anyway. SiN was an attempt...)
