I installed this my new winXP system with an E8600 CPU/Geforce 470/DirectX-9c. In the into it's showing these weird solidified "beams" and
where you input you're name there's a mismash of artifacts so can't make out anything. Tried turning off D3D, Z-Buffer, Alpha settings
and that clears those issues but didn't get this to play in "software" mode.

Tried copying the game install over to my windows 98SE system but it got hung up on a "no CD audio bug" of some sort. My guess is
extracting the audio files from the GOG file will fix it, maybe.

So anyone out there with a similar system to mine ever get this running? Have fond memories of playing this game with my son on a pentium 133
back in 1998 so it would be nice to get it going. Thanks ahead for any ideas!

I don't have the GOG version, just the original game patched to v3.22 + bonus tracks, but adding the cmd line switch -DoRealLock to the shortcut fixed frontend graphics corruption.

Also, adding -CorrectRatioTextures to the cmd line fixes fonts if you need that. It fixes a flashing horizontal line in the sky on the Fun Fair track too.

Thanks, added the switches but it's still messed up. All I can figure is it doesn't like Dx9c.

Here's some pics showing what's going on, maybe somebody will be able identify the issue.

Oh, yeah that looks different than what the cmd line switch fixes, sorry about that.

I'm thinking driver issue because it works with DX9c on my XP machine. I never used a GPU newer than a GeForce 6800 GT or Radeon X800 Pro though. Try 275.33 driver or WineD3D.

Yeah, this problem has nothing to do with DirectX 9.c
It's an Nvidia driver problem.
Interestingly newer Nvidia XP drivers (besides broken custom resolution settings. etc) are worse for older games than even Win7/Win10 drivers...
And on Win7/10 at least you can use DgVoodoo 2.x. It cures this problem.

Thanks, but before I start messing with the drivers is there any setting in the nvidia control panel that might help?

I match my opinion with Falcosoft, I think reverting to an older driver can be helpful

Not that I know of. I'm not even sure if WineD3D will help, but that's the only other thing I can think of to try.

By the way, if you are going to play other pre-DX8 games on this rig, VirtuaIceMan posted driver test results here which might be helpful.

Tried Nvidia drivers 260.99 and it's no go. Probably won't push it back any more everything else is running fine.

Idk maybe put DxWnd to test or force to use HEL with it? There are old DDrawCompat versions available too...

I ended up installing the game on my Win10 machine and running it through dgvoodoo2, looks really good after a little tweaking.
