It's most likely due to the engines reporting GL extensions getting a string way too long. Many source ports fix this
You should also delete opengl32.dll in your quake/hexen2 folder

that's an outdated closed source engine that doesn't even fix bugs
There is no official third-party source port

yes I run this outdated port on my outdated pentium3 with an outdated voodoo5. 😵
I realise now OP uses win7 so yeah, nhexen probably is not good for him..
as a sidenote, darkplaces crawls from time to time on a tualatin 1.4ghz pIII + voodoo5
