Anyone know much about getting shadows working in Unreal?
I have a CT6870. It is a Creative TNT2 Ultra AGP.

Does it matter what kind of TNT card? Not sure if it had to be a Creative board either.
try running in opengl mode
or d3d mode if your already in opengl mode

Another file that needs to be preserved within the Sacred Terabyte.
does it do any checks for a tnt card ?
edit: yes it does checks for a creative tnt 3d blaster

Preserve indeed! heh heh
Thanks, i'll try this out soon. Just haven't gotten the TNT2 into the ol dos pc yet.
Sad that they never got shadows working elsewhere. Seems abandoned and very hard to get working. Almost seems like a TNT or TNT2 is required.
Fake VendorID and DeviceID in 3D Analyze may help. Try these values:
Riva TNT DeviceID: 0x0020
Riva TNT2 DeviceID: 0x0028
NVIDIA VendorID: 0x10DE
Creative VendorID: 0x1102
Stumbled across something that has me curious. Found 2 different Creative 3D Blaster TNT2 Ultra video cards. This is supposedly the best card you could get to run Unreal with shadows. (Still very open to anyone who can confirm such info. I'd be interested to know if this has been done successfully on newer cards.)
Noticed that 2 cards, with the same model number of CT6870, having different components. Looks like one is missing the TV decoder hardware. Also, one has a fan with a tiny heatsink, and power connector for the fan. The other, with missing tv out, has a larger heatsink, and no power port for a fan. Anyone have thoughts? Is this a Rev B type of thing? If so, which one is the Revision?
Anyone care to speculate or entertain what this is? Thanks!
I don't get this shadows patch, what kind of shadows does it enable and why only on TNT/TNT2?
Because Vendor-lockin is so "awesome".

Here is the old news report from Comdex 98. It shows a demonstration of shadows working in Unreal. Apparently reporting being done on a TNT (not a TNT2) far as I can tell.

Since the article is very old, it's links to larger versions of the images are broken. Here are 2 medium res images I managed to find online.
I've never heard about that as well. Looks interesting at first glance but Direct3D in Unreal was piss poor, therefore I bet this feature is buggy. Would like to see it in action to know if I'm right or not though...
Huh, interesting! If anyone manages to get this running, please do a good quality video capture and show us how it looks. Although it probably is buggy as hell 😜
Time permitting, I'll make the effort to put this back together and try again. I'll do a high quality video capture and post.
I think that's the Creative-patented stencil shadow technique that Creative sued id Software over for Doom 3.
I would love to get this working myself but my father NEVER EVER got any TNT cards, after our VooDoo cards we went with ATI for some reason...
Why exactly does creative need a patent for stencil shadows?

MONEY that's why.
3D Analyze has a setting to lie about what gfx card you have you just need to find the vendor id for a tnt
