hello!
i tried to install red alert on my winxp pro. so i made images from the disks and mounted them in deamon tools. i made a shortcut to the setup.exe on the desktop and enabled the win95 compatibility mode like dosfreak said. when i start the setup now this message comes:
unable to locate necessary files. please run setup from the cd-rom disc.
same when i try it with the original cds.
whats wrong here?
I've installed C&C red allert under xp in this way:
(you know how to use the registry editor ??)
1.) Install it in the DOS-Mode (without soud - choose : No Sound)
2.) xtract the Xp-Patch from the archive into the Game-Dir.
3.) Apply the 1.08 patch from the Archive (check the language, maybe its only for german versions)
4.) make the Registy tuning in HKEY_Local_Machine/Software like in pic below
(It should call "Install Path" - but it also works with "Install Patch" 😀 as you can see, and the string is the Install-path where you have installed C&C Red Alert 1)
5.) Make Shortcut to RA95 in your desktop
6.) make it win98/ME kompatible /turn the Compatibility mode on
6.) Have Phun 😀)
You can maybe install the addons (in the dos-mode) too , but i have never tried it.
