we have the original 5 disc set of Starfleet Academy for the PC. When we try to install it for windows XP it has a problem finishing the setup. we end program because the "setup" is "not responding" even so the game still plays. the intro is great and all of the movies play, but the ineractive buttons as well as portions of the screen have a problem loading, and the screen goes blank. when you move the cursor around the images flash and then go blank again, this happens during gameplay as well, the bridge goes black... move your mouse... same result as in the menu screen... HELP PLEASE...

I have SFA but I haven't tried playing it for like a decade. 😀 It is designed for Windows 95/98 though so it would be best to play it under those. Otherwise I'd suggest some web searching. There are bound to be discussions about problems with it out there.

Make sure you patch it. That game was a mess when it came out.

You can find patches for it at this site (do a search for starfleet academy):

http://www.patches-scrolls.de/

The Interplay self-help for the game is available in the Wayback Machine (search for this page):

http://www.interplay.com/support/product.asp?GameID=212

TrekCore is also a good resource for any Trek game, and they have a specific page for Starfleet Academy:
