I asked a question in another forum, and received a answer that the newer
video cards do not support windows 640 by 480 screen mode resolution.

http://www.freebasic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=101754#101754

Does anyone know or have a video card that doesn't support this mode ?

It's hard to believe; because 640 by 480 has been a standard video mode
for years ?

I could set my XP desktop to 320x200 with my NVidia card if I wanted to.

XP hides modes under 800x600 from the basic display settings menu. Use the advanced menu for better control.

You can set 640x480 as the desktop resolution in the NVidia control panel; you might have to do it as a custom resolution (that's what I did with my 8800), but it'll work just fine. It's difficult to believe that there can be a modern card that just doesn't support 640x480 because Windows sometimes uses that resolution for safe mode and as a fallback in the absence of proper drivers.

windows can use up to 1024x768 IIRC with the Standard VGA. the second part of ripa's post is true, you can set resolutions there, it is not clear that you can though since it doesnt mention that fact at all in the dialog box 😜
