I am struggling to get Sin and Wages of sin to run with Open GL, i can get the software renderer to run but the textures are blocky and lame. I have both SiN Gold and the seperate game of SiN and the Wages of SiN Add on that updates SiN to version 1.03. As i understand it, verions 1.11 has OpenGL support but i cant find a patch that updates 1.03 to 1.04. I can find plenty of patches that update 1.04 to 1.11 but nothing to get it to go from 1.03.

Can anyone help out?

I enjoy these older 3D world games and this is a classic. I had it running fine with the Steam version but i want to use my stand alone actual games instead, as i hate Steam.

SiN always had OpenGL support out-of-the-box even during its early development. 1.11 doesn't add new capability it didn't have (well, nothing other than new maps and funny text-to-speech)

SiN Patch Instructions

Answer these questions to see what patch version to download. You'll want to get to version 1.11, the latest (and final) version of SiN. To find out what version you have currently, fire up SiN and look at the main menu where it says OS Rev#:.

I have the original CD, or I don't know what version I have:
Grab SiN_111_from_100.exe, which is 32.7 megs and will patch you from the original CD (1.00) to 1.11. It also supercedes all other patch versions, so it's great if you're not sure you've gotten everything.

I have the patched CD (later releases) or I got a patch CD from Activision after buying SiN:
You're in luck, you have a few original patches and some deathmatch maps already, so your download of Sin_111_from_101.exe is only 15.2 megs. If you aren't 100% sure you have 1.01 already, spend the extra time now and get 111_from_100.

I have the add-on pack Wages of SiN: (version 1.03)
Unfortunately, you have 1.03, which means you'll have to get Sin_111_from_101.exe, as this has some needed stuff like SinCTF included in it.

I have SinCTF (or another version above 1.04):
Get the smallest download, only 5.56 megs for this guy, Sin_111_from_104.exe has a few new maps, say_talk speech synthesis, and GameSpy support built-in! Neat stuff.

thanks for all the great replies. My Gold install of SiN which includes WoS is 1.11 but it still wont go into Open GL, crashes and out. I can get up to 16 bit and software renders which at least looks a bit better but no way near as good as OpenGL I have XP Pro SP3, NET 3.5, FX 8600GT and my driver is 6.14.12.5721

I tried to install the 94 driver which i hear is better for some of the older games but my system refused to allow it.

I am stumped. As i posted i updated to 1.03 and i see i can try the 1.01 10 1.11 fix. Yes Davros, my Anachronox fix with Nhancer for Anachronox no longer works. the trick to that is to remove all later versions of NET back to 2.0 and install an older version of Nhancer that worked once for me but now it wont. I can still run Anachronox on my older system which has the 94 Nvida driver and uses the 2.0 NET and older version of Nhancer and it runs like a charm. sigh

why did Nhancer screw this support up? does anyone know. Well back to SiN, i will keep trying. It is puzzling as i DO have the version 1.11 according to the little number at the lower right but no joy on OpenGL yet. i will keep trying. any suggestions Miki very welcome.

I have version 1.11 already but it just wont use the General GL setting,

i tried to run the 1.01 - 1.11 patch and it refused to run.....evidently because i already have 1.11.

I could try to start all over with the basic 1.0 and see what happens.

should i try some of the more esoteric GL settings? i have no idea what the differnece between them all are...

They're for different obsolete 3d API GL wrappers, so don't bother with anything that isn't "Default OpenGL".

Though, one wacky stupid thing you could try, is install zeckensack's glide wrapper than attempt to use the 3Dfx OpenGL Minigl driver that ships with the game. 😜

Isnt' the problem with all these older opengl games that they use a static buffer when requesting gl extensions which is less then the driver wants to report. I hear nvidia has some option in the drivers to limit the number of extensions reported by the driver, no idea what the workaround for ati is (probably using an older driver with less extensions...).

I have the extension limit for Anachronox set at 11a8 is that the same as setting the extension limit on? .....if not, how do you set it as "on" and is there a way to do this with the Nvida control panel ? thanks ...i am just about to give up on Sin but i would love to be able to play Anachronox on this compy instead of having to switch to the older one.

ok, i just checked that and my extension limit is already off ...thanks D, appreciate the guidance. I guess i will have to go back to the Steam version which is actually 1.12 and allows me to use the higher quality settings. sigh. thanks everyone.
