I've been searching the internet for days and I can't find one that doesn't throw up an error.

The AMD site seems to say they have them. The direct link is HERE. Or you could just go to their MAIN site and go through the Drivers & Support search yourself. This gives you the Catalyst 6.2 driver/control package for ATI Radeon 7000 series on Windows 98.

Plus ATI Win9x drivers are ctd if you have HT/multicore CPU or have 512+ MB RAM.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Didn't work. Thanks for the ME and 2000 drivers, but I need Windows 98 drivers.

1) Go to this page:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/archive/radeonaiw-98me

2) Download the link "WDM Driver Package"

3) Extract it, and then force install through Device Manager (Update Driver, search from directory, specify directory that it is extracted to).

Pretty simple, not rocket science.

That's strange, I unpacked the file and found many inf files listing 9x & 95 driver entries before I posted the link 😒 The file name is "6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314.exe " is that the one you downloaded?

ME drivers should work with Windows 98. This card is a nightmare on Windows but works great with Mac OS Classic.

Just as a note for others who find this thread: After installing the aforementioned driver 6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314.exe, games will still fail to detect a Direct3D device. You must install DX7: 7.0_directx7.exe - games then detect the Direct3D device! No more software rendering.

Thanks for this comment. I am facing exactly the same issue (Direct3D not available on dxdiag). But I have already installed Dx9.0c, and it doesn't let me install "7.0_directx7.exe" now. Do you know any solution ?

if you want dx7 and not 9 the only way is reinstall 98se install dx7 and dont install dx9.

Thanks, I thought so. But I have found a tool called"DirectX Buster" ( https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/directx_buster.html ).

I was able to remove DX9c with that and install DirectX 7. Then DirectDraw is enabled but still Direct3D is not available.
I also tried with DirectX 8, then even DirectDraw was not available similar to DX9. So I reverted back to DirectX7

Screenshots are attached with more details. I am using ATI Radeon 7000 drivers from AMD itself ( https://www2.ati.com/drivers/6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314.exe )
My card is a RV100 based ATI Radeon 7000 PCI with 64 MB DDR VRAM.

i thought that tool only worked up to version 8.1 though, interesting so it either didn't work properly or thats not the problem. You can always try the omega rad drivers. Not sure if you need .net 1.0 or not with those.

Yeah, even though it says like that, before clicking "start", it correctly detected OS and DirectX version. So, I think description is not changed to include Dx9 😀
I will give a try with"Radeon Omega Catalyst Drivers for 9x\ME 2.6.37 " ( https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/rade … s_for_9xme.html )

My case is little bit complex, I can't disable SiS620 4MB IGP (running at AGP 2x), so Radeon 7000 is a PCI . So, both cards are working now with multiple displays (Screenshot).

There is no AGP slot on board (Compaq OEM FIC C31-A with AMI BIOS) and can't access to BIOS to disable IGP (unlike with retail version of the same motherboard with AWARD BIOS).
I tried various SOFTPAQs (ex: SP15674 , SP8126, SP8126 etc) with "Computer Setup" but all said unsupported system or "CPQCM.SYS is not loaded or is the incorrect version" (Screenshot).

I even tried to crossflash retail AWARD BIOS UA412 as mentioned in https://www.elhvb.com/ctechinfo/model/CE31-A/CE31-A.php to get full BIOS setup.
But it bricked the board, and I had to reflash Compaq OEM AMIBIOS UE6137 to SST29EE020 BIOS chip with an Arduino as an EEPROM programmer.

you could try 3dcc and select secondary card. you could try finding the system restore cd for that model and extracting cpqcm from it.

Thanks a lot for the information. I will try it (found at : https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fil … 807&menustate=0 )

Unfortunately. I couldn't find any details on this model "Compaq Presario 100C", other than few ebay listings.
Fortunately, I was able to extract Win98 OEM key from original HDD. It had Win98 FE though, so I installed Win98SE on a CF card using the same key.
I searched the original HDD, but there was no "CPQCM.SYS" or any BIOS SETUP partition.

I found a simple solution to disable onboard card. Placed RAM on 2nd slot instead of 1st slot. It disabled onboard AGP card and I can now use PCI Radeon 7000 64MB.
Dual 1080p displays on glorious Win98 with 3D. 😀
