hey there
im looking to find the right SB Live! Cd that contains "Cubasis AV"
the reason is. this is the last version of Cubase that still supports windows 3.11
after downloading the cds that were posted in the vogons driver downloads
i have seen that theres a few different versions of the same "applications" cd for SB LIVE
the one that im after i think features "mixman studio 3.2" whereas the one that is posted here
only includes "mixman studio 3.0" so the cd im after came just after the cd that is posted here
in the box with sb live cards.. i think its on the applications cd but it may have been on a seperate cd
altogether and included in the box.

Cubasis AV was superceded by Cubasis VST 1.0 which was released in May of 2000
so that puts the timing of the SB LIve! applications cd that im looking for to be
late 99 or early 2000's, most likely jan feb march april of 2000 sometime.

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may99/article … oundblaster.htm
here is an article declaring the Cubasis AV as part of the bundle which is dated may of 1999.

For a street price of less than £120, it not only claims a significant improvement in audio quality over its predecessor (the AWE64 Gold), but also provides both S/PDIF In and Out sockets, and an impressive software bundle that includes Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge XP v4.0, Steinberg's Cubasis AV, and Mixman Studio.

here is the other article i saw, dated january 2001
http://ixbtlabs.com/articles/sbliveplatinum51/

this article details teh applications cd as containing the following:

A set of demos and programs has enlarged: […]

A set of demos and programs has enlarged:

Kool Karaoke 1.0
LAVA Player 2.5
Mixman Studio 3.2
MediaRing 7.2
PixMaker, PixScreen
Cubasis VST for Creative
WaveLab Lite
ReCycle Lite

but that is Cubasis *VST* which is not the same as Cubasis *AV* so some time during 2000 they switched from bundling Cubasis *AV* to *VST* instead.. Cubasis VST requires win98 or higher im guessing.. but like i said, Cubasis AV will run even on Windows 3.1
which is why im looking for it!!

any chance anyone has ever come across this app? Cubasis AV.. its originally from late 1996.. around the time that the first *VST* versions of cubase started showing up for both mac + pc.. its like the last version of cubase that is bundle-ware and *requires no dongle*

heres some other post by someone saying they have this:
http://www.dancetech.com/forums/css_thread.cf … reads_end=14704
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.s … ase/_uVPFZw_H0s

actually this last msg from the google group.. says that his awe64 came bundled wtih "Cubasis *Audio*" this would work realy great for me too
as i think this version may be win3.11 compatible aswell.. being the version of cubasis that supports both MIDI+Audio tracks.. that came just before "Cubasis AV".. which came before "Cubasis VST"
hope i havent confused anyone! there are way too many versions of cubase!!!

anyway
id love it if someone could help me find this disc!!!!
so i can produce tracks on Windows 3.11:) for kicks

I just checked my complete, boxed SB Live! Platinum, and I have the Cubasis VST CD... unfortunately not the AV CD. There's also no Cubasis stuff on the Platinum CD itself. My box contains:

- SB Live! Platinum CD with LiveWare 3.0
- Cubasis VST
- Rollcage
- Aliens vs Predator
- Mixman Studio

The seller was kind enough to put the receipt in the box too, and it's dated December 1999 if that helps at all.

hmm that sucks..
i wonder if it was a mistake by the writers of the article
i know they wouldnt be the first ones to mistake one steinberg product for another,
mixing up cubasis av for cubasis vst.......

http://img.secondemain.fr/f/normal/81495907_4 … dio-et-midi.jpg
this image has the date 1997 on it.. and the program is definately origianlly from 1996/1997
the last years of support for windows 3.1 definately was 1997... everything was win95+ in 1998
most people forget win98 didnt come out till late the year. the old windows logo ruled;)

anyway im really looking for this app if anyone has it hit me up

perhaps i should be focusing more on this "Cubasis Audio v1.6" that was
apparently bundled with the awe64gold.

Well the SB Live! was released in August 1998, and the Platinum wasn't released until sometime in 1999 according to Wikipedia, so it's entirely possible that the writers of the article have it wrong. It doesn't make sense that the software bundle in an SB Live! box would change a year after release.

it doesnt make sense but thats exactly the type of thijngs that happen with OEM bundles
they do get updated + changed.. and u dont know untill u buy and open the box..

cubasis AV was shipped originally with the first batch because cubasis VST didnt exist until may of 2000
so the disks/box that u have is from after that point if it includes cubasis *VST*

someone out there who has an originaly sb live box would have the discs that came with Cubasis AV

im guessing the cubasis VST version that u have has no extra hardware check to make sure that the
sb live! is actually installed...

i tried to download a cubasis AV version that came with a Terratec EWS64-XL card and it did include a
hardware check and wouldnt run telling me i didnt have a terratec sound card installed..
any chance u could try this out? by trying to install on a machine that doesnt have an SBLIVE! installed?
and let me know your result? if yes.. thanks so much.. if no. no problem... & thanks for responding to my questions in the first place:)

Why is this in the Windows game forum? I would also question the the legality of distributing this disc.

Some people only read "Windows" and think "that's the platform I need support for" rather than the full subforum descriptions... I guess this should go to Marvin or Milliways?

That said, I can check my discs! I have both early-ish SB Live discs and AWE64Gold discs still.

[EDIT] My SB Liveware disc to my old Creative Sound Blaster Live MP3+ (non-5.1) PCI card is labeled "SB_INSTALL" and the contents of DISK.ID says

3rd Party Software Disc 2
3PA-CDS2D-2-US

Application CD, CLI Part No. 1713331033.
dated 9/8/1999
It includes Mixman Studio 1.5, Prody Parrot 2.0 Value, Sound Forge XP 4.0, Soft Karaoke 3.1, and IBM ViaVoice Special Edition.
The second disc is "Cakewalk Express Gold 8.0"

My SoundBlaster AWE64 Gold included:

  • Eradicator (I sadly destroyed this CD recently, it got underfoot of my desk chair)
  • Magic Carpet 2
  • a disc titled "Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold Software" and labeled "AWE64_GOLD" and the contents of DISK.ID says

    Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold
    A64G-CDSTA-5-US

    dated 12/30/1996, part no. 1713330434
It includes Creative Audio Software, Creative WebPhone software, Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0/3.0, RealAudio Player, MIDI Orchestrator Plus software, Creative 3D-Copter, and SoundFont-compatible MIDI demos.

If by uploading complete driver disc packages to VOGONSDrivers we're distributing full versions of licensed software, we should give that a rethink. Of course, I just uploaded a proprietary confidential SDK there the other month.

Also the 3rd party stuff generally only came with the gold editions of the hardware and generally not downloadable from Creative's site. While they were often light versions, they still had the authors' (Steinberg, Twelve Tone Systems, etc.) labels on the discs and had to be registered to them. My understanding is that they were specially licensed just for Creative's top end hardware. I doubt that the driver disks themselves would be an issue, since they are only of use with the hardware.

As to the SDK, was it something that was originally sold? It seems like most SDKs are free since they want developers writing for their hardware, platform, etc. that the SDK was targeted for.

Cubasis AV was indeed a lite introductory to the Cubase family of products..
it was meant to get you suckered in and get you to buy the fullblown retail version as your work progressed past the limitations of the lite edition.
that said, trust me in saying that it belongs under the category of Abandonware.. being that it is for windows 3.1 + windows 95.
there is no legality to call into question.. Steinberg would not offer any support for Cubasis AV whatsoever.. it is legacy + obsolete.

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/m … AL000010556.pdf
heres a link to SB LIVE 5.1 manual dated september 2000 and unlike the mac version of the manual (which was dated December 2000) it makes no mention of Cubasis AV

however
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/99990.pdf
this scanned version of documentation is from 1 year earlier, August 1999
and here Cubasis AV appears as well as these other titles:

Creative Rhythmania
Creative Wavestudio
Creative Keytar
Music Library
Soundfont Showcase
Unreal (game)

its not even a pdf document at all but seems to be a pdf created from actual web content from this url:
http://europe.soundblaster.com/products/sound … live/ablive.asp

hmm i think i see whats going on, Perhaps cubasis AV was only offered to the European market..
im checking web.archive.org backup of soundblaster.com and the american content seems to be different
and was packaged with cakewalk express instead, here is the american page showing cakewalk express gold 8.0:

none of these have any mention of cubasis.. but then again they are backed up from 2000
maybe it was offered in USA in 1999 the same as Europe?

as for the european version, found it, they changed the website to europe.creative.com instead of europe.soundblaster.com
here it is displayed on this page...

heres a copy of the disc that its talking about..... so thats not it at all....err actually this disc has fl studio 4 on it..
and they would have mentioned that if this was the right disc .. this disc must have came with the audigy.
confusing;) but there definately was a version with cubasis *AV* as the farnell.com black + white pdf explictly shows it!!

The SB Live! Platinum boxed version I mentioned earlier is a German one, by the way. If it was offered in any SB Live! software package, I don't think it would have been the Platinum - my guess would be the SB Live! Gold, the one that came with the daughterboard rather than the Live! Drive.

And just to make sure you covered all the bases, the Cubase versions on the Steinberg FTP site are not what you are looking for, correct?:

what im after is exactly what u have just linked...well sort of.. it runs on the same engine + codebase im sure... but that installer requires a Cubase Parallel port dongle.. I have a few but they dont authorize this older version, my dongle is for Cubase VST/32 5.x
i think it will authorize v4.0 but not further below... this directory you have linked features patches for "audio" + "score" versions of cubase v3.0 up to v3.05, as well as the fully patched up to v3.05 installer of
"Cuase Audio XT" which is a specialized version for supporting non-asio hardware by Yamaha (CBXD5) & Digidesign ( Session 8 ).. but u cannot run these versions without a dongle.

The Cubasis AV version im after is basically a limited version of these apps that still allows for recording up to 8 audio tracks and requires no dongle. There was a version before "AV" called Simply "Cubasis Audio" this version was bundled at some point with the AWE64 Gold. all of the above work on Windows 3.1/3.11 and Windows 95.

Maybe you can send a support ticket to the European branch of Creative and ask them if they know the Creative part numbers for all the discs included in that early software package for SB Live. It's a long shot, but stranger things have happened. That would be more fuel for Google for later.

okay, that _might_ get it hosted on VOGONSDrivers if found.

Yes, but here at VOGONS moderators and admins policies are definitely biased AGAINST the concept of abandonware, at the very least in terms of full versions of actual videogames, and will typically not permit any discussion on the matter or even linking to sites that host it. Which is why Collector is so vigilant. As seen below in the footer: "This site hosts no abandonware. There is no material that is knowingly illegal here." By stating that, you're not exactly making your case. 😉

If we want to be technical, VOGONSDrivers is not officially a part of VOGONS and the rules don't apply there, but the admin there (SquallStrife) generally uses common sense and keeps his guidelines in pace with VOGONS guidelines.

another article about sound blaster live including + coming with Steinberg Cubasis AV.
but obviously refering to the "mac" edition of the SB live!

Stilletto:
Cubasis AV is just the same as any other of the "lite" apps that are bundled with the already existing files u guys have up that were OEM packaged distributed with hardware.. its a limited version for promotional reasons bundled with the hardware. Creative Labs/Steinberg are not going to hire a bunch of people to patrol the internet to police their "Free" giveaway software from 15 years ago.. it was freeware.. trialware.. promotional ware.. from 14 years ago.. that happens to be still usefull. im not asking vogons to host it to give it away if you guys are uncomfortable with me talking about this then obviously i can shut up.. i figured that there would be other people that were unaware that the ownership of their SB LIVE! entitled them to the use of this software... be it to record midi parts from a game or whatever... Or to produce their own midi based music using whatever other retro cool cards they have collected.

Cubasis AV is a great app.. I will find it for free, or purchase it standalone + second hand. either way.. i was hoping that some people would be interested in the potential of this software and interested also in the effort to track this down.

dont mistake Cubasis for Cubase.. Cubase is their flagship product that is protected with a dongle
Cubasis is the light version.. with a price tag of 1/8th the cost because it has a limited featureset.
Cubasis AV is entirely abandonware.. it was superceded by Cubasis VST v1.0 thru v4.0
then Cubase LE 1.0 thru 6.0..

the current Cubasis now is an iOS app for iPhone + iPad...
it doesnt exist as a desktop computer product anymore

the version im looking for lists A 486 DX/50 as its minimum requirement.
Creative labs would laugh at me if i contacted them to talk about Cubasis AV.
1996 was a long time ago. they stop supporting even products from the mid 2000's
the audio industry is a peculiar thing.

No, pretty sure we'll permit ongoing discussion and that said discussion ("I'm on a quest to find such-and-such driver disc") is welcome here, and generally I love quests like this. Yeah, you can make a point that you're not entitled to use this software if a. you don't own a European Sound Blaster Live (as your research bears out) and b. if you don't own a Sound Blaster Live at all. But still. The main problem is actually a moderation problem, we don't always know the full story on bundled OEM software. Sometimes things come with full unlimited versions and get uploaded and we don't know the difference until much later.

This.

VOGONSDrivers is mainly concerned with drivers, hardware-related utilities, and manuals. If there are disk images on there that consist only of commercial application bundles, then they're basically off-topic shouldn't be on there.
