I have a k6 450 with 256mb of ram that I managed to get windows 7 pro on and it’s come in pretty handy as a dual boot setup with win 9x/ME. Believe it or not it actually doesn’t run too bad either, considering.

I have a dual 233 MMX with 512mb of ram that I want to also install windows 7 on. But despite having the latest (which happens to be a jan patched) bios. It’s still not making it to the installer screen. It fails with a error that says the bios is not fully acpi compliant.

Is there a way to get around this?

i think it's hardcoded to work only on acpi machines, still windows 7 has some problems with pre-pentium pro processors, don't know if is the sp1 that broke compatibility or if it fixes.

actually they had a issue with pre sp1 or sp2 versions working at all on pre 686? or something like that but the latest version works on 586 there are videos of people booting 7 on a pentium 90

okay so no way to load 7 like you can load xp to non standard computer types like mps multiprocessor?

right, windows xp was the last Microsoft os to support multiple (standard, apm ahci, multiprocessor and so on) hal, whereas in vista and later they only support single and multi processor ahci hal and in 7 is worse
still that's not the biggest problem, assuming you can get it to work, you need to take in account the incompatibility
there's no support at all for pre-pci devices, no support for game port and it'll lack support for anything, and it'll be slow

Just a wild idea, no clue at the moment if it's in any way possible even. haven't looked into it but... use clover to start the windows install/boot

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

you could try, but acpi isn't only a bios thing, the motherboard must support and have all the necessary electronics for it to work
clover only "emulates" an uefi environment, so that an os that needs that can boot, or like windows, that needs to be in uefi mode to be able to install it that way

As a reminder I have 7 working on my 430tx k6 build and it’s quite handy. Sure a tad slow but definitely usable. In fact I use it more than the other operating system on that build.

But yeah, lack of isa sucks but I don’t actually have any isa cards in these two builds

The only thing it seems keeping me from using 7 it seems is acpi.

I read somewhere that 7 assumes acpi based on the bios date?

Anyone able to change the date on my bios? Maybe it actually does work but assumes it doesn’t someone who previously looked at my bios said that it had acpi in it though maybe a older version. But maybe that was just the program they were using reporting wrong

There are reports of windows 7 working on as little as 96mb of ram btw. On mine I have 256 on the win 7 computer and it idles at 150mb ish

That’s clever...

Which clover version would work on pentium mmx?

Well, I looked into it, but reports vary, so it might be r4111 being the latest that has 32bit support in the compiled package.
Anyway, haven't tried it myself, so I guess google is your friend 😁 or duckduckgo or ...
