Thinking of getting a device similar to this: https://www.gigabyte.com/Mini-PcBarebone/GB-B … 00-rev-10/sp#sp
to connect to TV and play some old games on Win10 (Steam/GOG) using wireless keyboard/mouse.

Has anyone got any experience in using one of these for older games?
Think NOLF, Starcraft, GTA3/Vice City, NFSU probably...

Any performance tips/things to avoid while choosing? Or all such devices (with Intel "HD graphics" integrated into CPU) are basically the same? Does it have enough D3DX7-8-9 performance?
Or such machines are even weaker than Pentium 3 in terms of gaming performance?

You'd want the AMD APU version of the BRIX (or similar machine) and it should be a newer one. The older models are at the point where they fail and they pack hardware that runs hot, when gaming.

A couple things to note about Intel HD:
- it's got powervr-style post-dithering for 16-bit color, so that looks better here than Nvidia and AMD and a lot of older (non-powervr) cards
- it's slower in DX7 but much faster in 8 and 9. (at least that's how it was for win7 intelhd drivers)

Windows 10 will be the major factor in your old game compatibility, particularly regarding CD protection.
