Just when I thought I finally had everything working with Quake (which has taken ... weeks?) and was about to play, I discovered that the CD play (redbook audio) feature doesn't work.

I'm on Windows 98 SE, Quake 1.08 on an Athlon XP1600 with 1 GB of RAM, I'm running software rendering (this is the most nostalgic to me anyway) using qip_winquake.exe to fix my stuttering issue, if anyone is interested: Quake 1.08 stuttering on Athlon XP1600 Windows 98

I used to play Quake while listening to Mech Warrior 2 audio and other games (I didn't like the original Quake music that much to be honest) that I owned which happened to have befitting music, so this is somewhat of a nostalgic requirement for me. From googling, it seems like many others did the same, Mech Warrior 2 seems to be a quite popular choice.

I do have the analogue audio cable connected to AUX/CD in on my audio card (a SB Live! SB0220) see page 8 of 33 here: https://files.creative.com/manualdn/Manuals/T … k%20English.pdf

I've verified I can play a CD in Winamp, this did not work until I connected the audio cable as described above, now it works. It doesn't work in Quake though.

I seem to recall I could just write "cd play 2" to play track 2, I get nothing.

When Quake starts, it spins up the CD. I've also noticed something strange, in the menu/options, I can change the CD volume from either max or minimum, but with nothing in-between, just binary either full on, or full off. This seems a bit odd.

I've tried "cd on", I've tried to adjust the volume, I've tried "cd info", which shows "1 track". This seems strange to me.

Here is a reference for some of the commands for the console in Quake:

Anyone that happen to know how to fix this issue?
