So I tried everything with this game, using dgVoodoo2 with narzoul's DDraw COM Redirection fix, setting compatibility modes, like reduced color modes, running in 640x480, running in Windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP mode, and the game doesn't start at all, the icon in the taskbar appears for a split second then disappears immediately after that. What could I do to get this game working? I'm using the GOG version btw.

Crazy thought, but have you tried renaming the .exe and then starting the game? Maybe Windows has some built-in compatibility shims for this game which mess things up?

Yes tried that too, doesn't work either.
