descent 2 I think always worked with a black screen. ef2000 shows nothing for me.

Texture loads are seriously messed up. I should maybe do more testing before pushing out releases.

What does ef2000 show you?

it's blinking, but game works, i can change views, but screen updated are very very rarely done, unstable and crushes
you need DETAIL=2 or DETAIL=1
in EF2000.CFG
doesn't work with DETAIL=0

i mean i can fly the plane and hear when i am shooting
it wasn't passing pilot selection screen before

It's probably running in fifmode. Try adding the dma environment variable before running it.

That's for running it from Windows as a dos program.

I have enforced family time at the moment and can't get to my machine.

This is extremely painful.

there is also this:
"After installation of the 3Dfx version windows may tell you that the program is better if
it is run under DOS, If presented with the option, click on NO. The accelerated
versions of EF2000 will only work reliably when run in a Win95-DOS environment"

i think i remember that there was that battlecruiser 3000 game that required windows' dos for some memory management or something

DETAIL=0 works with dma=0

i can start config.exe and choose to start game from there and it starts but complains about missing cd probably cause i installed in winxp from a different cd letter

I got the same error.

I got a chance to try it and you're right, it does appear to work, very slowly.

you may like to check descent2 too
i am sure it wasn't working before 13
if you already have a pilot name there:
when you hear music skip movie with esc
wait a while for new music and keep pressing enter
when you hear new music press esc to skip movie
now you hear music with sound of typing briefing, press esc
when you hear new sounds you are in game
you can shoot with space and ctrl

before 13 you could only get to the second music
