If I am not in the right place please help me find the right forum. I have a sound card problem. My computer is an old Micron 486. I installed Reveal's Multimedia Upgrade Kit in the mid 90s. The sound card controls the CD ROM drive. The directory the files are in is called SC600. Something happened. Now my sound is distorted, crackling. There is no difference in the setup, so it couldn't be an IRQ conflict. One day it just wasn't working right. I read in one of the booklets that came with it that the SSINIT program (Soundscape S2000 Ver. 3.0) should never be run under windows or in a DOS session under windows because of dire consequences. It is possible that I may have accidentally ran that program in a DOS session not realizing I was still in windows 3.1, I only wanted to check something not changing anything. If I did, did I damage my card? If not, can I coax it back to its former self with some software wizardry? Help! I removed the software and reinstalled it. Even reinstalled windows (restored it from a backup). The powered speakers are okay.
