First of all its not really a problem with duke3d just an annoyance. I have the atomic edition and it requires the cd to be in the drive at all times. No data is read off the cd.

Theres a 400 odd mb file in \support\ that is refrenced in a file called cdrom.ini in the duke folder, i have tried copying that to the hdd and changing where cdrom.ini points to but no luck. Is there anyway to get this running with out requiring the cd in the drive?

Also quake 2 refuses to install on an NT os despite the fact its windows 98 i am trying to install it one. Again... any ideas?

For Duke use eduke32

For Quake 2 run setup.exe directly off the disc. If it still complains then run it in Windows 95 compatibilty mode.

98 doesnt have a compatibility mode and eduke is awful imo changes the feel of the game too much. Ive played around with settings but nothing seems to get it to what i'd call a faithful version.

hang on you install quake 2 on win98 and it complains that it wont install on a nt o/s ???

i've never had a q2 installation problem on 98, though it helps to know early Quake2 masters (3.05) autorun to a DirectX installer rather than the appropriate Quake2 autorun setup itself.
