All this VESA stuff...modes, drivers etc is something I know some people here are experts on but since I wasn't a PC user back in the 90's I'm a newbie in this area and would like some tips

I have installed scitech display doctor version 6.53 I think in win3.11 which also set up the DOS utilities and it launches the univbe thing in autoexec.bat and make my old CL5428 based gfx VESA 3.0 compatible and updates some more stuff but it eats alot of conv. memory even when loading it HIGH
I would like to know how to set up these VESA utilities the right way to get most of it and not waste any conv. memory
Would also like to have some higher refresh rates in DOS...can you guys please help me out?

Maybe there is not enough space left in upper memory for the UNIVBE driver to be loaded high. You can check with the command "mem /c /p".

Well, basically there is not much to do except loading UNIVBE.EXE in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
If you installed the whole package from Win3.x, there are some help files explaining the purpose and use of the other programs. You can access them from the SDD control center.
