Jedi Knight & Heretic II work OK with V2 SLI @ 1024x768.

But Redguard only runs if SLI is disabled, and Hexen II only goes up to 800x600 res, and no further.

Am I doing something wrong, or does this sound familiar to some of you guys?

Thanks, regards, Robert.

some games did not work with sli
some needed patching
hexen 2 should do 1024x768
try this :
copy the .dll files from the latest release of glquake to the hexen2 dir, overwriting the ones that were installed from the cd. then start hexen2 with the command -width1024 -height 768.

I went to the id (Doom) website and downloaded the glquake package (version 0.95). Inside this package was this .dll file -

opengl32.dll

I overwrote my hexen II opengl32 file with this one.

Then, I successfully tested hexen II with this command line -

glh2.exe -width 800 -height 600 bpp 16

Then, I tried this command line, but it failed -

glh2.exe -width 1024 -height 768 bpp 16

The error message pop-up box said -

wglCreateConect failed

Any further thoughts would be gratefully received, thank you, best regards, Robert.

I downloaded the Hexen2 demo and got the same error as you
deleting the opengl32.dll from the game folder fixed it

my shortcut properties :

"C:\Hexen II Demo\glh2.exe" -width 1024

ps: I am not using a voodoo2 this is with a 8800gts

pps: its -bpp 16 (not bpp 16)

Hello, and thanks very much for your post.

Please forgive me, but I am currently engaged in a significantly time-consuming pitch battle with a PnP <spit!> AWE32 card, and in so doing I have subsequently formatted my HDD for additional testing purposes.

When normal service has resumed (probably when I get a non-PnP awe32?!), I will try out the info from your post.

Many thanks, best regards, Robert.

Well yeah that's no help since that DLL was specialized for Voodoo cards. Deleting it would just make the game run in a slow software mode for a 3dfx user. 🙄

Try using latest MiniGL drivers, latest I have are contained in archive minigl147.zip. So try searching that on google. Inside there is Hexen 2 folder that containes miniport driver opengl32.dll for Hexen 2.

Edit: Here's repacked archive so you don't have to bother with searching.
For some reason VOGONS doesn't allow .7z extension, so rename .zip to .7z.

Thanks! I've just DL'd it. I will try it out just as soon as I can...please note, I have very recently reformatted my HDD atm due to sound card testing, but I think that testing is nearing completion. As soon as I can, I will test out H2 with that new .dll file.

Voodoo2 cards are secondary video devices and OpenGL doesn't immediately recognize those, well at least not Hexen II. Hexen II strictly uses OpenGL32.dll and does not feature options to use 3dfxvgl.dll instead (like Quake 3 does)

it works if you do that for a voodoo banshee/voodoo3 and later (since they are primary video devices), but NOT! a Voodoo Graphics/Voodoo2!

Success!! Thank you!!

I replaced Hexen II's default opengl32.dll file with the newer opengl32.dll file found inside the minigl147.zip download package (thanks very much to Vogons user "Miki Maus" for providing this DL link), and I can now get Hexen II working at 1024 x 768 resolution using Voodoo2 cards in SLI mode.

Best regards, Robert.

AFAIK, that card doesn't have native OpenGL support, but uses Direct3D-to-OpenGL wrapper.

LOL! That was 10 years ago.
