Hi,

Looking in ebay I see this item:

http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& … :MEWA:IT&ih=022

Is a parallel (ecp/epp) compact flash reader, that means the best external and removable solution for using in a pc xt I think.

The problem is that I´m not sure that runs on an old ibm pc xt spp parallel port. In the readme of the drivers is tested with several spp mainboards but the most low pc is an 386.

Any know something about this cf external device on a ibm pc xt ???

I have the drivers, and appear to run on my 8088 pc xt, but I don´t have the device and the drivers says

"device not detected"

I think the cf reader may run, but I´m not 100% sure.

The drivers are here : http://www.norsystems.net/drivers/Mdcfe-sr.zip

I hope any can solve my questions, perhaps any have one device like this to confirm me that runs on a ibm pc xt with spp port.

Regards.

P.D. I have the drivers downloaded from internet, but I not buy the device yet.

yes but SPP is uni-directional too.

Right, but the speed of nibble-mode transfers might be less than ideal, assuming it works at all.

Looks like if there are any 80x86 instructions in the driver, you might be out-of-luck...

The Drivers that I try appears to run perfectlly, the only thing that says is
device not detected, because I don´t have it right now.
I want to confirm first that run, and then buy it in ebay.

Respect the post in vintage computers, the drivers for the zip in a 8086-88 (guest.exe) requires at least 80286 machine, the only drivers avalaibles for the 8086-88 are the zipman´s ones by klaus peichl.

Get an ECP/EPP parallel port card for your XT and the parallel port compatibility problem is solved. Drivers are an entirely different matter. I hope it works well.
