I'm trying to run Sonic 3D blast in VP 2007 but encountered a problem. During gameplay for some reason, the screen collapses vertically, squishing the image. I have a screenshot:

However, during the opening FMV, the screen is correctly displayed:

Does anybody know what might be causing this?

edit: I should note that this is running Win98se. The game itself wants to install directx 3 but dxdiag says I'm at directx 6 so I didn't install it.

That fixed the screen issue but now I'm experiencing a different problem. About every 2 seconds or so, the game will stutter. This is noticeable when sonic is scrolling the screen in one direction and then there is an interruption in the scrolling. Is there anyway I can fix this?

edit: Overall the performance is obviously worse than I'd get in XP but the stuttering issue causes an interruption that is hard to ignore.
