Yeah, tell me a place where they love bums and "beach people" or whatever. 😁 😁

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

Do you realize that a decent number of those homeless have chosen that life?

No paying taxes, no bills, no having to go slave away at a job every day.

If you live in a warm climate it isn't the worst thing in the world that could happen to you.

Then there is the fact that there are charities such as The Salvation Army and other homeless shelters that help those that actually want help to be able to get back on their feet. Meals and a bed to stay in, showers, etc. are free of charge.

Years ago I picked up a homeless person in Texas and drove them around 12 hours to Tucson, AZ to a local to me homeless shelter so they would have a place to stay. I really doubt that person actually changed or even tried to get a job but I did what I could.

Government spending is not an answer either. Just handing out money that the government stole from the people that earned it is not an answer. People have to want to change their lot in life.

A good number of these homeless only want handouts. They are not interested one bit in earning money.

Wow, that's fucked up on so many levels.

Yeah, but that has been my observation for the past 20+ years.

Everybody wants to talk about "the war on poverty" but that is just politician speak for wealth redistribution, aka - steal from the people that work for their money to try to buy votes for the politicians that push it.

It is very evident over here. I'm all for helping people that it will actually help but that should not be a role of government. A Nanny State is not good for anybody but the politicians.

And who cares about "political correctness"? That is just code for censorship, aka violating our first amendment rights.

Uhm... Poland, the home of the game's developer Ragged Games actually is a good example for a country with very stringent hate speech laws. I think, if you'd try to excercise your first amendment rights there by, for instance, saying anything that can have you found "guilty of intentionally offending religious feelings" or "promoting a fascist or other totalitarian system of state or of inciting hatred based on national, ethnic, racial, or religious differences, or for reason of the lack of any religious denomination" you will find yourself "liable to a fine, a restriction of liberty, or to imprisonment for a maximum of two years."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_in_Poland

So don't let's spill the "first amendment" where it doesn't apply.

Well, I am not in Poland but apparently Poland doesn't have an issue with that game so it must not be considered "hate speech".

"Hate speech" over here is the USA is effectively "anything a certain political party doesn't like to hear". One side will get dragged through the mud by the other side if anybody on their side says anything remotely "offensive (mostly by telling the truth about the other side)" while the other side will be praised by those on that side when they do actually say something that is offensive.

Been grown up in a socialist country I agree in most parts. I firmly believe that there is a set amount of people who are impossible or extremely expensive to help, as they would just buy drugs or what ever if they received any money.

What is sad is that we have elderly people who forget to pay their bills or get divorced and are put on the street. This is sad and an example of a the messed up world we live in.

But I mean what the hell, it is just a game.

The moment I've lost the last bit of my sympathy for the homeless was when once I saw a homeless woman spitting blood and I stopped asking if she is alright and need an ambulance and the first thing that left her mouth (second after another mouthful of blood) was asking if I had some change.

That reminds me. Hospitals here are required by law to provide care to whoever needs it, regardless of if they can pay or not.

Good for the poor people but also helps jack up the prices for everybody else.

One time I was over at an office near the hospital and there was an obviously homeless person sitting near a building. He had a hospital bracelet on so it was apparent that he had just been there. Right next to him was a bottle of mouthwash that he drank and he was completely out of it... might have taken some type of drugs as well is my guess.

There have been times where I have given food to homeless people and they seemed genuinely grateful. Other times there have been homeless people that have rejected just purchased hot food because they only want money. Sometimes they are even super rude about it.

Kind of hard to help them when they don't actually want any real help.

I worked with a guy who was homeless for years. He is a good guy and one of the most heard-working people I've ever met. Trust me, homelessness can happen to anyone, given enough bad luck.

yes, the journey from here to there is shorter and sharper than most of us imagine

about the game, i'm sure i saw it (or maybe another similar game) on a list of thought provoking games, ie that it would help understand the plight etc

Indeed

The game doesn't offend me personally. Bad taste, but clearly tongue 'n cheek. Some of the attitudes demonstrated in this thread are quite an eye opener though.

Homelessness is so easy. Just have a rented or bank loaned home, no safety net of somekind, something bad happens, and boom you are homeless. You do not have to be a alcoholic, drug addicted, schizophrenic bum to be a homeless person.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.

And no family to rely on. Let's be honest, even if it's stigmatized in our western society, moving back to your parent's is better than living on the street.
