I am testing a Banshee 16MB PCI card under Win98 -- I have tried installed a bunch of different drivers, but not matter what, I can't select a resolution above 640x480.

I can select True color and it works, but the resolution options just are not available in the windows control panel.

Is there a very specific driver I need to be using or something? Is the card faulty? The graphics appear fine.

This was a fresh install -- no DX yet....can that make a difference to 2D desktop resolution?

Yes.

I had the latest reference Voodoo3 drivers fail because DirectX 7.0a wasn't installed. The readme of that driver pack does state that DX7 needs to be installed beforehand and that the drivers were designed with that in mind.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 970 / X-Fi

It was the monitor selection that did it -- I am installed DX7 though just to be sure. Thanks.
