I believe that the way that the Crash Cymbal rhythm instrument is sounding out when using MT-32 v1.07 control ROMs is incorrect. Rather than sounding-out gradually, it comes to an abrupt stop. To illustrate my point, I have attached:

  • an example MIDI file that ends with the Crash Cymbal instrument sounding out,
  • smf2wav parameterless conversion results with MT-32 (v1.07 IN03-MUNT-MT32roms.flac) and CM-32L (IN03-MUNT-CM32Lroms) control ROM,
  • a real hardware recording from an old-type MT-32 (IN03-realMT32.flac).

MUNT does sound out correctly with CM-32L control ROM but not with MT-32 v1.07 control ROM, even as real v1.07 MT-32 hardware does sound out correctly.

I suspect that this problem is related to the attempt at making "TaikoCym" from Strike Commander sound correct. The current implementation makes Strike Commander indeed sound correct, at the cost of the normal Crash Cymbal.

Gah, it really is broken 🙁

Thanks for noticing, it's kind of a subtle thing.

I noticed the problem now in conversions that I made in 2017, so it took me four years to notice. 😀

That's what I could call "subtle" 😀

Anyway, I suppose it is emulated properly now. See Issue #82 on Github.

Sounds good, thank you. I checked both IN03 and CMBT-04 from Strike Commander again.
