On rare side of things, original Savage 3D would probably be quite interesting.
These are great picks! G100 is essentially a derivative of the Mystique/Millennium II core and it fails hard! Savage 3D is actually decent, AFAIR it's essentially a slower Savage4 since it lacks single pass multitexturing.
Savage2000 is broken though, very weird chip.
Next episode about SiS 6326 - not so bad compared to for example to S3 cards. Still nothing good for retro gaming....

Savage 2000 was mine 3rd 3D card (S3 Virge DX, S3 Savage 3D, Savage 2000), but had it only few months as TV out died and we got as replacement from store GeForce2 MX which was better.
Savage 2000 actually wasn't so bad, yep had driver issues like all S3 cards and broken T&L so few games didn't worked, but performance was good.
Their mistake was that they tried to sell it as highend card for higend prices with broken DX7 support exclusively through their Diamond brand for which they paid too much.
So they bancrupted really fast and suddenly appeared also noname brands everywhere.....but too late.

I had Mystique 220 on Atom board once running XP. Slow, due to Atom not tuned for PCI connection.

Cheers,
Which Atom was it? Which driver was the Matrox card running on? Most mini-itx board with latest Atom (the old dual cores ones not the tablet oriented) had a PCI-EX to PCI internal bridge probably for industrial oriented reasons when a direct PCI-EX connection would simply have been better to use.
Was Atom 230 running 1.6GHz D945GCLF motherboard.

Enjoyed this! Been curious what exact model GPU was used by Carmack and never could quite nail it down, thanks for this!

This should be a fun watch . .S3 had some absolute stinkers in the Virge family.
