I hope title isn't too negative... but since all GPUs will die eventually, I wanted to check what cheap options of early DX10/DX11 era can offer (under Windows XP), by comparing them to most of the recommended DirectX 9.0c options available out there.
Platform used :
I only used one card per model (to make it sane for me to do), but I still ended up with a lot of cards (20 to be exact).
A word about them : NOT all are clocked at default values, exact clock speeds are next to card's name on each graph.
Please check clock speed and memory speed of Your card, before comparing it to my results.
"Cheat sheet" with specs of the cards I tested :
Tests were done in benchmarks (3DMark, Codecreatures, Fillrate Benchmark 2004), and few games (DOOM3, Far Cry, FEAR, Crysis, Quake III). I specifically focused on harder to run popular games of the 2004-2005 era (that are easy to test and have stable/repeatable results). Crysis and Quake III were thrown in, to show how good/bad both oldest XP games (DX7), and future ones (shader heavy) can run.
Here are results for most popular benchmarks for older DX9c cards :
Link to complete result table for 3DMark 03 (perovided by 3dmark.com compare function) : LINK
And here's how game average looks like (without Quake III Arena) :
More results can be seen in posts below this one, or in my video : LINK
I hope all this data will usefull to you, as I would like to hear some feedback/comments about this topic.
