@Sphere478 neither, I ran it on ASRock from other topic, as I have issues with drivers however 2 next and final PCI GPUs on the way. 😀

So I've got Nvidia FX5500 PCI 256MB RAM from china and card itself works but not with this mobo, shame and confusing Quadro NVS 280 PCI works. 😁

The Fx5500 does require a fair amount of voltage from the pci bus, it would likely be perfectly at home on any board that has the supplemental P4 power connector.
PCI Voodoo 3 cards have similar issues with weak pci voltage delivery, usually it’s SS7 boards that suffer from this.
Then I'm staying with Matrox G450 as this one works and doesn't mind DOS games and I think it's still overkill for this build. 😀

Those Chinese knockoff cards are known for not working with older PCI slot only motherboards ( I think it needs 3.3 volt from the PCI). The NVS 280 is basically the same chip, and with such a CPU limited setup it will perform just as well when used with the 45.23 driver and maybe overclocked. I ran 3D Mark 2000 with an NVS280 (64 bit), an FX 5200 256 memory 128 bit card, and a 128 64 bit FX 5500 on my TXP4 with a k6-3+ @ 500, and the results were extremely close.

The probem is either win95OSR2 or card itself, I mean I told you, mi amigo, I couldn't set FX5200 manually because of missing something in USER32.DLL? So I removed all those inits in regedit to remove startup errors and as I mentioned DirectX games were working and benchmark 99 forced me to use connected Voodoo 1 without possibility to check GPU but version 2000 detected it and ran well, I didn't note results tho. 😉

Atheatos detailed how he modified one of these cards for an external source for 3.3 volts since the PCI slot on his Asus P5-A didn't supply it: https://youtu.be/U8W6A-VKroE?t=473

So it's power issue not mobo's by itself? I mean it's still PCI and it'll work as long as enough power delivered to card?

The card is built expecting the slot to have 3.3 volts - if the slot does not supply 3.3 volts it will not work. Older PCI FX cards weren't reliant on the PCI slot having 3.3 volts and are more flexible about what motherboards they will work in. I've avoided this issue by sticking with the older FX based PCI video cards for my TXP4. Here's an example of one that has worked for me.

Well, for my motherboard it's still an overkill so do I need working one? I bet Matrox G450 is ok since runs DOS apps no problem, at least these I wanna use. 😁

If the video card you have does what you want it to do, then it seems the answer is no.

Yup, I wanted something 'stronger' but paying for another one since ATI Mobility Radeon 7500C isn't that good (but 'forced legacy' driver changed my mind about it's crappinesss), FX5500 is good but for XP for me, S3s have more sense for DOS, so I have only one choice, that Matrox. 😀
You will always find something that the installed card can not run...it's always about the compromises...
