As it says on the tin, I’m looking to get one for my new 486 build. The case itself is large and will preferably need one that has long cables. Searching around for a bit I only found two different sources for them. Both seemed pretty cheaply built with short cords, so I don’t know where to go from here.

Have you considered a ATX/AT cable adapter? You might need to rig up the on/off button though. Actual AT power supplies stopped being produced 20+ years ago and are probably not to be trusted.

I saw those but I’m unsure where to get one of those, one of the two videos I found involved splicing wires and soldering them to another plug 😮

You can get the AT/ATX adapter cables on Amazon, among other places.

You could keep an eye out for a NOS unit on ebay. Chances are most will be stupidly priced, but once in while you can find a good deal.

Or if yours is suspect, you could rebuild it.

ATX to AT cable harness still be had. Also search ebay for "Ram power supply" they are medical grade ATX PSU and is very nice and has -5V present.

There's a company called Athena that still makes AT PSUs up to 400 watts.

I bought one last year for my retro rig and it works good, but I plan to do a fan mod on it soon because it's louder than I'd like.

You can also get AT extension cables for the motherboard's connectors. 😉
