im really impressed how good the voodoo5500 runs dos 6.22 and win98SE. I pulled the card out of another system (Pentium3 /win98SE/ Asus p2B) and i tryed to replaces the voodoo with a 9800pro or a geforce 2MX. But any of this cards i got irq problems... The P5A runs old games like Wizardry6 or M&M3 till M&M 8 with 3dfx perfect. The k6 III+ 600MHz push the 1999-2000 Games to run perfect and i can go back to dos with disable cache to enjoy midi DOS.

I use alot of external MIDI on the Roland MPU-401AT (the XV-5080 is the best on GM midi):

Now if all those leds could be used as blinkenlights instead of an ambient lighting...nice colour though, perfect for Subwar 2050 or Archimedean Dynasty!
What are the 3 vertical computers on the left?

Since i used the system only for DOS6.22 i switched the GPU. Im still testing what works best for me. At the moment i added a PowerVR Matrox m3d PCX2 with a ATI rage 128 PRO.
Will also test a Matrox G250 and G450 soon.
Maybe also add a voodoo1, but im not sure i run than in IRQ conflicts 😀

Never posted picture of this baby, i musst say i really love this roland board. The MPU-401 AT. I think the best midi interface you can get for DOS Gaming.
No need for breakout box, no hanging note bug, you can add a wavetable board and get the audio direct with rca or phone jack.
Never get me any problem running any midi device.

Also add a OPL2LPT V2:

I like your rig and also like mixing old and new as long as it maintains compatibility. Regarding that Roland card, just got yesterday Keropi's version of it (ie. Music Quest clone) and installed it to my pimped DOS rig similar to yours. 😁

I did some upgrades. The MPU-401AT got a Yucatan FX , GPU switched to a Matrox G400 MAX with the Matrox PCX2

Great card! I was just doing some tests on my own Matrox G400 and I'm still amazed by its image quality.

Running it on an LCD monitor at 1280x1024 over a VGA connection at 60 Hz, and the image is razor sharp. I don't know of any other card from 1999 that can produce such picture clarity at that resolution.

Yes i had a voodoo 3 3000 before, but the vga quality of the g400 max is reference.
Even its overdose in my system, because i run most time dos6.22.
Its really good for the last DOS stuff like Cybermage, Tomb Raider, Decent to Undermountain ..

I also switched from the SCSI2SD to a IDE -> mSata Adapter with UDMA2 support and a 32GB MLC mSata.
Here a DOS Bench with AMD K6 III+ 450 @ 600MHz 2.2V

And an M3D? With heat sinks on the memory? I like!

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎
