I just can't get enough of 8086 based systems. They are my favorite XT Class systems to work with. My latest acquisition is a system with a Juko Nest N3 10MHz motherboard. The is a pretty cool motherboard with 1MB of memory, 320K of which can be used as EMS memory. I had all the parts ready to go ended up with the following build:
NEC V30@10MHz CPU
8087@10MHz Math Coprocessor
ATI VGA Wonder XL24 1MB SVGA Video Card
Juko M16-X Multi I/O Board 2x Serial, 1x Parallel. High Density Floppy, and RTC (This came with the system)
Adlib Sound Card by Sun Moon Star (This is a clone Adlib card from around 1992)
3COM Etherlink III 3C509B 10Mbs Ethernet Card
Lo-Tech 1MB memory card (64K memory block @D000 for DOS UMBs)
Blue Lava Systems XT-IDE Compact Flash card (Configured a 2GB Sansdisk Ultra Compact Flash card)
I removed the SCSI adapter & CD ROM that was included as I really don't have any software for this class machine that requires a CD ROM. I swapped out the Juko D16 IDE controller and 42MB hard drive in favor of the XT IDE solution. I replaced the TexElec Adlib card for the more period correct Adlib clone card. Lastly I upgraded the ATI VGA Edge 16 for the ATI VGA Wonder XL24.
The system is running with DOS 6.22. The only thing I don't like is the Juko EMS driver chews up around 24K of memory, but using the LoTech 1MB card for upper memory helps offset that quite a bit. I have around 620,000 bytes of DOS memory with all drivers loaded. Here are a few pictures of how things turned out.
