If i remember correctly, win95 had a little network activity Indicator icon that was located in the lower left next to the system clock and other running programs. This app would block when network traffic was going in/out. Was this a win95 app? Or did it stat with win98? And if it is a win95 app how can i start it?

I know of LanLight - visual network monitor, but it says it required Win98. Maybe it works in Win95?

EDIT: The webpage states

This program will NOT run on Windows95.

Hmm, maybe i am thinking of dial up networking? but i'm almost sure i remember that little icon for the nic card as well.

Purpose:
The program is intended as a "replacement" for (or addition to) the Modem Icon that used to show up when you dialed into your ISP for Internet connectivity.

Maybe it was Kerio Personal Firewall. But I don't know if it worked on Windows 95.

The animated icon above might have been the dial-up netwotk indicator back in the days. I recognizer that one as well.

However, there exists a tool called "iptest" that acts as LAN network indicator (like in the XP days):

Here's a screenshot of the German version on Windows 98:
