I'm trying to use Fallout under Fedora 7. My computer is reasonably new. I upgraded lots of it about a year ago, and don't remember the exact specs, but the processor is an AMD Athlon X2 4400 and it's got 2 GB RAM. The sound card is a Creative Audigy, and is a few years older. I run Dosbox 0.72.

When I start Fallout, the sound stutters a lot. I have tried tweaking the frameskip and the CPU cycles. I have also tweaked the CPU settings (core and cycle) and set priority to highest. I also adjusted the blocksize and prebuffer both up and down, as well as setting the rate to 44100.

I managed to fix it. I ran SOUND and changed the sound card to Sound Blaster 16, with the settings from the configuration file. I didn't actually see the SOUND command in the tutorials and FAQs I read, so I stumbled across it by chance.

readme/faq is quite explicit about this: "Be sure that the sound is correctly configured in the game."
But nice you figured it out yourself.

Yes, I read that part of it. I just couldn't figure out how to do it, apart from editing the conf file. I may have overlooked that part of it.

If you think you can rewrite those passages/add something to the wiki or
whatever just post the new text here. Should help other people finding
the information quicker in the best case 😀
