Hmm sure start up a server for just 1 channel, noone's gonna bother connecting to that.
EFnet is pretty emulation-centric, as far as servers go. Lots of popular channels, including #retrogamers...
The smaller the network, the fewer the spammers and other lamers. Also, it's easy to connect to multiple networks at the same time in a lot of IRC clients. Plus, a lot of people would probably prefer to just use a web-based Java client if Snover put up a link to one, and those almost always are hard-wired to only let you connect to one channel on one server at a time anyways.
