HI VOGONS Wizards. I come here when all else fails

I am trying to install and run ROML Riddle of Master Lu on XP SP2 Pro AMD 3300 2/6 Ghz FX 7600 Audigy ZS2....so far no joy
wont install ...set up wont run install wont run...

when i tried using compat 95' and VDMS on the Set up program got this:

I found this thread about someting that mey help but it is from 2004 i am not sure if it reached working condtion:

have you tried dosbox sounds like a dos game

OK, I made some progress..i got the installer to run and install a medium install, for some reason the Complete Install option wouild not activate

I detected my sound card and specs.

But i could not run the game. I tried again in DOSBOX to run it and got the following error repeatedly:

FATAL ERROR ENCOUNTERED:
EXCEPTION_THROW: Unhandled expection : EXCEPTION_WRONG_MEDIA

Error Code: OX0901

I picked Gravis Sound card as a random option..as my FX is of course not on the list. Should i pick another option?

Get the mounting correct (check the dosbox readme), choose sb16 irq7 dma1 for sound.

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

thanks so much for the fast posts and i have some excellent suggestions that have come, i forgot about -ioctl and will try that and tweaking the set up settings...

this was what i used....just trying to mount the game directory individually which i do when i am working on a difficult install ....and I like to try to use the default install location i.e. for this one, C:RIDDLE

these were my mount settings ....i will read the tut you mentioned carefully
as even after years of using emulators i still mess up 😀

Z:\>MOUNT C C:\RIDDLE
Drive C mounted as local directory C:\RIDDLE\

Z:\>MOUNT D D:\ -T cdrom
MSCDEX installed.
Drive D is mounted as CDRom D:\

Z:\>C:
C:\>

C:\>CD RIDDLE

C:\RIDDLE>

C:\RIDDLE>RIDDLE.EXE

and yes i did check the VESA support check box in the properties 😀

Got it working finally. The Snd Blaster 16 setting was crutial, nothing else works, at least none of my other tries did. thanks to everyone for the help, you all are great.!!!

what an interesting game this is, a mix between live action, full motion vid and point and click. Looks as great as its reputatoin. Glad it is still possible to run.
