I'm having a slight problem with Fantasy Empires. I'm new to Dosbox, just fyi, so this may be an easy fix. I've searched around the forums and found nothing however.

If I run this game without a frontend (I've tried D-Fend and Dos Box Game Loader) it runs no prob. I just mount the directory that contains the game files as C and run the .exe file. I dont do anything fancy with settings.

However, when I use the front ends mentioned the game loads with 2 mouse pointers on the screen. The normal one (a hand graphic) and a second which I believe is the Windows pointer. Both move at different speeds and it's really annoying. I've messed with all kinds of settings in the game profile but cant figure this out. I'd rather use the front ends for running dosbox. Can anyone help me?

Dosbox v .65
Asus MB (cant remember model) w/ onboard sound
AMD Althlon 64 3200+
EVGA 7800GT 256MB
XP sp2 fully patched

Does this happen only with a certain configuration, like just with this one
game, or in fullscreen etc.
Also try some other frontends, like the one at
http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/blankendaalr/dbgl/
and see if it happens with really ALL frontends or just with a set.

Wow--I've been trying to figure out how to resolve this issue myself. In my case, I can't even activate the "hand" pointer in thew window at all as long as I have mouse lock checked (I'm using DBGL). I have to unlock the mouse and set the sensitivity to 90 to get the mouse to move at all. Even then, they don't move entirely in sync, so some things on the screen I can't point to and click. Veeeeeeery annoying. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas how to fix it? For giggles, I also ran it straight from DOSBOX 0.72, and had the exact same problem.

Errrrrrrgh... still no luck. Once the game opens and the menu screen appears, I click on the window but the main mouse doesn't "disappear" allowing the use of the hand. I still have to unlock the mouse to get it to work at all, but the main mouse is still visible along with the hand, and when the main mouse travels off-screen and I click, the game window loses focus. As a result, I can only reach about 50% of the screen with the "hand".

I just went to the downloads section and thought I might go the *other* way and download an old version of DosBox. However, the link seems to be broken... it takes you to the download of the new version.

I guess it's good that someone else experienced this same problem almost two years ago, and I wonder how he got it resolved. I also found another post that had errors with the mouse, and they fixed it supposedly by running the sound.exe file and setting up the sound cards. I did just as they spelled it out, and it still isn't working for me....???

Check the troubleshoot section of the readme.

Hmmmm... do you mean the readme that comes with DosBox--section 10? I did read that and it dealt mainly with crashes... nothing specific about the mouse control. Or did you mean another readme?

Ohhhh man do I deserve a slap for that one. In case anyone else has this problem and searches these forums, here it is:

Q: The mouse doesn't work.
A: Usually, DOSBox detects when a game uses mouse control. When you click on the screen it should get locked (confined to the DOSBox window) and work. With certain games, the DOSBox mouse detection doesn't work. In that case you will have to lock the mouse manually by pressing CTRL-F10.

Works like a charm now! Thanks 😀
