I just released my latest Ancient DOS Games episode for the tennis game Serve and Volley, (which can be found at http://www.pixelships.com/adg/ep0008.html), but now that I've done this game I'm starting to wonder about all the various pre-90s sports games that came out for DOS and what I may've missed out on.
The very first game we ever got for our Tandy 1000 SX was the driving game Test Drive... which may make me one of the few people on the face of the planet to own the Tandy-specific version instead of the original EGA version because I can't find ANYTHING related to it online. :/
Then there was Grand Prix Circuit, which frustrated me because of how difficult it was compared to Test Drive, so the next game we got was the baseball game HardBall... which didn't work on 384 KB of memory so this prompted our upgrade to 640 KB. HardBall I liked as a kid because it was more about numbers and choosing options than driving a vehicle that handled poorly because the keyboard controls were lacking and our original joysticks were awful. (When we got our clear-plastic Gravis joystick though it made a HUGE difference!)
After that, my memory fails me as to the order we got the rest of these sports games in, but I also have the golf games Mean 18, Mini-Putt and World Class Leader Board, the basketball game Fast Break, and of course the tennis game Serve and Volley, which is my favourite of the old DOS sports games.
There's many other sports though, such as volley ball, soccer, football, lacrosse, hockey, skiing... I never played any 80's DOS games that cover these sports or others and I'm curious if there are any I should've tried and should keep an eye out for when hunting for old DOS games to acquire.
