Windows Vista (sometimes) & 7 (almost always) causes palette corruption with 8bit color games.

Best solution is to end the explorer.exe task before starting the games.

There are scripts out there with the appropriate commands if you want to create a batch file to do it.

The best way to play Jedi Knight is using the new JKE Jedi Knight Enhanced mod set up, it has been perfected thru long and careful work by community members and there is a enhanced texture project underway as well:

the JKE Jedi Knight Enhanced: JKE

http://www.jkhub.net/project/show.php?projid= … ction=downloads

Jedi Knight Retextured: JKR

JK Unofficial Patch:

and for the in game settings: these are reccomended for the best graphics, and I welcome any other suggestoins or other set ups that people find good:

1600 x 1200 Resolution (i use up to this)

3D Acceleration check Yes
Enter 32 in to Minmum Texture Size

Back Buffer In System Memory

Increase View Size to Maximum

I've recently played Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight in Win7 x64, and none of the fixes/updates I've tried got rid of the "garbled UI colors" problem on my system, though the game itself works quite well (and even supports widescreen resolutions correctly, which amazed me). The simple fix is to launch the game with the "-windowgui" parameter which makes the UI and videos run in a window. The 3D game engine will still run in fullscreen mode. It's not a perfect solution but it works.

Here's a better solution. Before playing the game, right click the desktop, and open up the resolution control panel. Don't do anything with it - just leave it open. Then play the game. No more palette corruption.

Running:
Windows 10
Core i5-6600
Geforce GTX 970
8GB RAM

It's worked every single time I've tried it. And every time I recommend that to someone the response is always "Wow, I can't believe that worked!"

Certainly it at least makes sense for anyone with this problem to *try* the resolution control panel method first.

Windows 10

Tried all of the above and i must say that ONLY ADDiCT's -windowgui switch hint works.
Don't know how all these patches and fixes from Jk Hub are supposed to work,
but they only corrupt the Jk.exe. So -windowgui works best.

The future of computation lies in emulation.
