How to use SVN without an installer?

hi,

(i'm running win 8 pro 64bit)

i'm trying to run starfleet 1 but that game has a problem with the official dosbox build .74.

Star Fleet I - File Read Error

so i downloaded the latest vanilla SVN 3820 but it is simply a 7zip archive. in the dosbox svn guide http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/SVN_Builds#How_do_I_use_it.3F , it says that i should just copy over the files of the official install with the files from the archive which i did.

however, dosbox still does not know where to find libpng13.dll and i suspect it will not be able to find zlib1.dll either.

am i supposed to copy those files manually somewhere or should i get an installer that i'm not aware of?

and if i'm supposed to manually copy the files somewhere, can you please specify where (system32? syswow64? etc.) and if i need to copy it to multiple locations. i'm reluctant to screw around in my system directories if i don't have to.

I'd suggest you to put those dlls in DosBox's root folder, because some applications might have different versions of those dlls in the system folders, you would overwrite them and cause those applications to break. Also make sure that you get the x64 dlls if your Windows and DOSBox are 64bit.

hi,

yep, that's exactly where they are now. i overwrote everything in the dosbox install directory with the files from the svn including the libpng13.dll and the other one.

dosbox does not see them.

oh and the SVN 7zip did not come with x64 dlls. do you know where i might get them?

well that was easy....

the SVN package came with libpng13.dll . but the executable was still looking for a libpng12.dll.

just renamed it and kept the files in the dosbox directory and everything's hunky dori.
