That was some of the most epic stuff I've seen. Too bad the center core seems to have failed to land

I'm in central Florida, only about 30 or so miles direct line from launch pads, so I went outside to see it. I saw both the rocket going up as well as the 2 side boosters landing (when they flamed up on the way down). No sonic boom though this time 🙁

Couldn't agree more, there's some really exciting things happening at the moment and this launch is totally awesome. I could watch those boosters land all day long and I love that they strapped a car to the rocket 😎
I'm also loving on the story of Tesla's success in South Australia with the 'big battery':

IF I understood it correctly they talked about loosing camera footage, not the core itself. So what happened to it? Was it supposed to land but never did? Did it make it and was just not shown on camera?

Great feat. Musk has achieved great stuff with Tesla and SpaceX, specially the latter, but the guy also has a lot of crazy impractical ideas.

The car isn't going where it was supposed to, maybe there was a problem with the satnav

You know, watching this, the only thing I could think of was the opening scene from Heavy Metal:

And apparently, I'm not the only one:

Something tells me this is maybe Elon's idea of a movie tribute somehow? Would have been cool if he played some Van Halen during the launch.
At least you can't accuse the man of lacking flair.

Bizarre, never heard of it. But hard to see how *someone* at SpaceX could not have made the connection, if not Stark himself.

For anyone who's curious, there's an interactive animation of the Tesla Roadster trajectory..
