My friend gave me an old crt monitor that was disassembled to atoms. Well i managed to put everything back together and the monitor seems to power on, but the picture looks like this:

Any suggestions what could cause this?

I have seen that kind of picture once and back then it was a capacitor issue.

That indeed looks like lack of horizontal sync or a loss of horizontal lock. I'd check continuity on the HSYNC pin on the VGA cable first.

The cable seems to be fine, I would also assume that there is a faulty capacitor, but there's doesn't seem to be any visible flaws. I guess i just have to test them one by one.
