I have a IBM PS/2 Model 80 and don't have the ESDI hdd for it. Am I boned or is there some way to hook up a cheap hard drive or usb drive to it?

Buy an MCA SCSI card.

SCSI is the way to go. I would prefer an IBM controller due to enhanced compatibility, either the uncached (Tribble) or the cached one(Spock). ESDI drives are allmost unobtainable. Probably due to their high prices or due to the fact they were misstaken for defective MFM/RLL drives tue to their mechanical identical interface.
My PS/2's ESDI hard drive is slowly failing so I've been on the lookout for a new drive too but so expensive!

What model number is the ESDI drive? I might have one.
